After Shakib Al Hasan made the call to retire from the Twenty20 Internationals during the Test series against Team India, another Bangladesh cricketer is supposed to announce that he will step down from the limited-over format. As per The Daily Star, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official told the sources that cricketer Mahmudullah could retire from the T20I format after the India series. The veteran was expected to call time in his career after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup , but he was named in the T20I series for the India tour of Bangladesh. The BAN cricketer is expected to make the decision public ahead of the 2nd T20I against India at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
"It's not a break, he wants to bring an end to the T20I chapter. He is supposed to announce it in this series," a BCB official said, as per reports.
Mahmudullah is one of Bangladesh 's senior players who plays only white-ball cricket as he retired from Tests back in 2021. In T20Is, the all-rounder has competed in 139 matches after beginning his limited-over career in 2007. The veteran is the leading run-getter with 2395 runs, with the leader being Shakib Al Hasan (2551 runs). He is also the most capped player for Bangladesh Cricket in the T20I format.
Mahmudullah featured in the playing XI against India at the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior. But he could not make a mark after he fell prey to debutant Mayank Yadav's delivery and was dismissed for just one run.
