IPL has been a breeding ground for youngsters since its inception. Playing his first IPL match, Mumbai Indians sensation Vignesh Puthur hogged all the limelight with his bowling antics against Chennai Super Kings .
Left-arm spinners have always been very hard to decode. Their unpredictable nature has often handed teams an added advantage, and the likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav have been quite successful with their trickery.
Chasing a modest total of 155, CSK at one point were reduced to 116 for five, with Puthur getting the prized wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad , Shivam Dube and Deepak Hooda.
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene heaped praise on the Kerala youngster but insisted he needs to keep his feet grounded and has to start from scratch in the next match.
As quoted by PTI he said, “It’s just the skill set. He wasn't fazed with anything we've thrown at him. That's a good thing about him. Yes, it was unknown for us because he hasn't played but I thought he held his nerves and bowled brilliantly,” Jayawardene told the media here on the eve of the match against Gujarat Titans .
“It's a learning process. He needs to start from ball one again and he understands that and we're just building for that."
The Chepauk pitch has had the tendency to assist spinners, and CSK have been baking on them. They do have an excellent lineup of spinners which comprises Ravichandran Ashwin , Ravindra Jadeja and Noor Ahmad.
Jayawardanbe further added, “We just felt that whether it's the last game or whether it's the 10th game or whether it's next year, he was always going to play for Mumbai and he was ready to play.
“And given the combination that we wanted to play, once we went to Chennai, we saw the wicket as well and we felt that it's for his skill set that suited and for him to play that game."
Mumbai Indians will take on the Gujarat Titans on Saturday, March 29.
