'Better Than Me': Moeen Ali Opens Up On Bowling With ICC Champions Trophy Winner Varun Chakravarthy For KKR During IPL 2025

Moeen Ali made his debut for Kolkata Knight Riders against Rajasthan Royals in their Indian Premier League match. Moeen Ali retired from International Cricket in 2024 but still continues to play the IPL. The England spinner was released by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction and was picked up at the base price by Kolkata Knight Riders. As Moeen Ali made his debut for KKR, he along with Varun Chakaravarthy played a massive role in toppling the Rajasthan batting order.

Moeen Ali On Bowling With Varun Chakaravarthy

Moeen Ali following Kolkata Knight Riders' victory over Rajasthan Royals opened up on what it was like bowling alongside Varun Chakaravarthy who recently won the ICC Champions Trophy with India. Varun and Moeen both picked up two wickets each in KKR's win over RR with Moeen Ali bowling figures of 2/23 in his four overs and Varun Chakaravarthy getting figures of 2/17 in his four overs. 

Moeen Ali revealed he came to bowl before Varun Chakaravarthy so that they the Indian spinner could come in later on and exploit the conditions.

"I came on before him, so my job was to bowl tight as I can and then maybe he can build a bit of pressure as well or get the wicket. I am used to bowling with somebody who is better than me and has more mystery than me. So, my job there is to bowl as tight as I can and hopefully, that builds pressure for that person then to get wickets," stated Moeen Ali in the post match press conference after KKR's win. 

Moeen Ali On Varun Chakaravarthy's Growth As A Bowler 

In the post match press conference, Moeen Ali also talked about how far along as a bowler Varun Chakaravarthy has come and how much he has improved in the past two-three years.

"He is bowling outstandingly well as we know. He is a brilliant bowler and has improved so much over the last 2-3 years and yeah, it's amazing to bowl with somebody like that," said Moeen Ali as he praised Varun Chakaravarthy and his growth as bowler in the past two-three years.
