IPL 2025: With the 2025 season set to start in a few days, the focus would completely shift on MS Dhoni , the Chennai Super Kings former captain and icon. While speculations over the future of Dhoni at the IPL rife for years, the man himself will get on the field once again - at 43 - as an active cricketer.

For fans in India he is not just a cricketer, he is way more than that. During an interaction on ESPNCricinfo recently, former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who has shared the dressing-room on a number of occasions with Dhoni, reckoned he is the ‘best-ever captain’.

‘Best-ever captain who has led the team’

“He is probably the best-ever captain who has led the team. A big franchise like CSK is run by just one guy, and that too with so much success, who doesn't need a computer. He outclassed the computers; you can check the teams who are data-driven and then check the ones who don't,” Harbhajan said.

Dhoni, who is a legend already, has amassed 5,243 runs in 264 matches and 229 innings at a strike rate of 137.53 in IPL.

'I've retired since 2019'

Speculations over the IPL future has been rife over many years now. To all the speculations, Dhoni broke silence last month and said he wants to enjoy his cricket.

"I've retired since 2019, so it has been quite some time. What I've been doing in the meantime is I just want to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years, you know, I will be able to play," Dhoni had said last month, during the launch of his app powered by Single.id.

In the past, he has faced a lot of criticism for batting way too low in the order. In 2024, CSK finished fifth and could not make the playoff.
