Rahul Dravid to handle red-ball preparations, Sitanshu Kotak to take charge of ODI series - Reports

With Rahul focusing on red-ball series, Sitanshu Kotak to step up and take responsibility for the upcoming ODI series starting from 17 December.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India, will not be in charge of the forthcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. Sitanshu Kotak and several other National Cricket Academy (NCA) employees have taken up the role of team manager, with Dravid and his staff in charge of the three-day Pretoria encounter on December 20–22 in advance of the Test series.

In order to help them get used to the circumstances and format, several members of the Test squad may play in the three-day match, which will be the second unofficial Test between South Africa A and India A. 

India's Preparation for the ODI Series

The ODI series will start on Sunday, December 17. In the absence of a few key players, KL Rahul will captain the Indian squad. In 2022, the Men in Blue lost 3-0 to South Africa in their last visit;  Rahul was captain of the team at that time as well.

Kotak has been a member of VVS Laxman's coaching staff as the batting coach. In addition to the duo, Sairaj Bahutule was selected  as the bowling coach in the event that Dravid was not available or could not be present because of a separate commitment with the first team. For the three-match ODI series, Kotak would get support from bowling coach Rajib Dutta and batting coach Ajay Ratra, according to a report by Cricbuzz.

Dravid to emphasize more on red-ball cricket

The emphasis Dravid is placing on the Test series, which starts on December 26, is demonstrated by his choice to forego the ODI series. Although they still haven't won a Test series in South Africa, Team India has been quite near to it since the last two times.

Its second away series for the men in blue of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023–25 cycle that will take place against the Proteas. India defeated the West Indies in their first series and will host three home series in 2024, starting with a five-match encounter with England.
