'We have had long discussion with Rohit Sharma': Huge update on India captain at T20 World Cup 2024

New reports have suggested that Rohit Sharma will lead Team India in the upcoming bilateral series against Afghanistan ahead of the T20 World Cup.

Rohit Sharma to lead team India against Afghanistan in bilateral series- Reports

The confusion over Team India's captaincy situation in the Afghanistan series may have an answer now. Reports from Inside Sport suggest that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian Cricket Team in the T20I series against Afghanistan, which is set to begin on January 11th, 2023. The report also quoted an anonymous BCCI official who said:

‘We have had a long discussion with Rohit Sharma, and he is ready to take over the captaincy in the T20 World Cup.’

With Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya out with an injury, Rohit Sharma sounds like an ideal choice to lead the team in the T20I series.

India vs Afghanistan will be the sole T20I series before the T20 World Cup, and Rohit Sharma may lead the team to acclimatize to the format. He will also take part in the IPL 2024 season and play as a member of the Mumbai Indians, which is set to be led by Hardik Pandya. Both tournaments will act as an ideal zone for Rohit to engage and make the case for a title run.
