Shubman Gill hits the nets ahead of crucial home season
Shubman Gill, who has been training hard at his home ground in Punjab, appears determined to leave no stone unturned in his preparation for the upcoming Duleep Trophy and home Test season. The Indian team has been on a lengthy break following their white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, where Gill played a crucial role as vice-captain in the T20I and ODI series.
During the tour, India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, secured a clean sweep in the three-match T20I series. However, the Rohit Sharma-led ODI team struggled, losing the series 0-2 to the island nation. Gill, known for his aggressive style of play in T20s, failed to replicate his success in the ODIs, leaving much to be desired as he returns to the Test fold.

Shubman Gill had a relatively subdued performance with the bat in Tests last year, with the exception of a century against Australia in Ahmedabad. Concerns were growing about his form at the crucial No. 3 spot, a position once held by Cheteshwar Pujara. However, Gill silenced his critics by making a strong comeback in the 5-match Test series against England earlier this year.
Over the course of 25 Test matches, Gill has accumulated 1,492 runs at an average of 35.52, including four centuries and six half-centuries.
