Another day and yet again KL Rahul fails to live to his potential. As five wickets had gone down, the stage was set for him to play a statement knock.
Another day and yet again KL Rahul fails to live to his potential. The right-hander is going through a prolonged phase of inconsistency and the Day 1 of the India vs Bangladesh 1st Test added to his woes. Rahul is facing the flak for throwing his wicket away after carefully negating the initial phase. As five wickets had gone down, the stage was set for KL Rahul to play a statement knock but he could not capitalise on the opportunity and held out after contributing just 16 runs to the scoreboard in Chennai.
Sanjay Manjrekar Criticises KL Rahul 's ‘Without Purpose’ Knock
Sanjay Manjrekar, who keeps a keen eye on the happenings in and around cricket, scrutinised KL Rahul 's mis-endeavour on Day 1 of the IND vs BAN Test. He labelled it as an innings without a "purpose". Manjrekar defined KL Rahul's inconsistent run as the typical narrative of his career.
"Completely understandable that they went for KL Rahul , It was just about experience, class, and recent form - the century in South Africa and an 80 in the only Test he played against England. But this is KL Rahul's story, It is amazing that he plays a brilliant innings at the Test level and the next two to three innings, it seems like he has got a pair in the last Test. Even when you saw him bat today, it almost seemed an innings without purpose," Manjrekar told ESPN Cricinfo.
Sanjay Manjrekar Cites Similarities Between Himself and kL Rahul
According to Sanjay Manjrekar, KL Rahul is committing the same mistake that he made in the latter half of his career.
"And that can happen. It happened to me in the second half of my career when everything was internalized and I went in to bat just thinking about my technique and if I was going to play this ball well, imagining a certain kind of delivery coming in and I have to play it properly, instead of going to your instinct as a batter which I think all the other Indian batters practice is about getting runs. Even when defending, looking for ones and twos," he added.
KL Rahul scored a classy hundred against South Africa in December last year. He followed it up with some flop shows before playing a gritty innings of 86 in the first innings of the series opener against England at the start of the year.
