Tom Latham To Lead As New Zealand Announce Squad For Three Match ODI Series Against Pakistan

New Zealand will be facing off against Pakistan in a three match ODI series which will begin on 29th March. Ahead of the ODI series, New Zealand have announced their 13 member squad for the ODI series as Tom Latham is set to lead the team as several members of the team are not available due to their IPL commitments. Pakistan and New Zealand will be playing five T20Is and three ODIs as part of the series which is taking place in New Zealand following the Kiwis loss to India in the ICC Champions Trophy final. 

New Zealand Announce Squad For ODI Series Against Pakistan 

New Zealand announced their squad for the three match ODI series which will see wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham take charge of the team. Fast bowlers Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson were also not picked in the squad due to workload management and injury rehabs. 

Top-order batter Nick Kelly and Muhammad Abbas got their maiden calls up for the New Zealand team as both batters have showcased fantastic outings with the bat in domestic circuits. Adi Ashok also made his return to the New Zealand side as the selectors feel it might be the perfect time to get new players and reintroduce a few players with the ODI World Cup still 2.5 years away.

“With a group of regular ODI players unavailable, we have a selected group of high-potential players who are now ready for opportunities at international level. With the next ICC ODI pinnacle event still two and half years away, the series is a perfect opportunity to introduce, or re-introduce in the case of Adi, these players to international cricket now.

“Nick has been the standout domestic batsman the last few seasons. He is a dynamic stroke maker with power, and he can bat anywhere in the top six. Mo is one of our most promising young batters and he also provides a sixth bowling option which is required in the absence of Rachin (Ravindra) and Glenn (Phillips),” said New Zealand head selector Sam Wells on his picks for the squad.
