During a practice session before the first ODI against Sri Lanka, scheduled to take place at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday, August 2, the newly appointed head coach of Team India, Gautam Gambhir, engaged in a light-hearted talk with the prominent batsman, Virat Kohli.
Initially, speculations indicated that Kohli was going to be given a break for the white-ball series in Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, Gambhir strongly advocated for the inclusion of both Virat Kohli and India's skipper Rohit Sharma, considering the limited number of six One Day Internationals (ODIs) that India will play before the 2025 Champions Trophy.
A video circulating on social networking site X depicts Gambhir and Kohli indulging in a jovial conversation on the pitch. Both individuals were members of the triumphant 2011 World Cup team representing India. Notwithstanding a contentious dispute during IPL 2023, the two Delhi players seemed to have resolved their conflicts by IPL 2024.
With a 3-0 series win against Sri Lanka, Gautam Gambhir made his coaching debut. The senior squad, which includes the 42-year-old, is now aiming to repeat that feat in the bigger format.
