  • Virat Kohli stepped down as the RCB captain after IPL 2021
  • RCB have played three IPL finals, in 2009, 2011 and 2016
  • RCB have never won the IPL Trophy

IPL 2025: Just like Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru too have a huge fan following. The only difference is the fact that CSK, MI and KKR have multiple IPL titles, whereas Virat Kohli's RCB are yet to win their maiden IPL title and end their trophy drought. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru have always had the luxury of procuring the services of star batters. Be it Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, Brendon McCullum, KL Rahul or Travid Head, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru have always thrived upon their batting prowess.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru start their IPL 2025 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 22, 2025. The match will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. RCB and KKR have been a part of many iconic games in the past and this time around too, things aren't going to be any different. Rajat Patidar will lead the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and this decision came as a shock for many.

Virat Kohli is the only player who has represented one franchise for all the eighteen seasons. Kohli also led the Royal Challengers Bengaluru from 2013 to 2021. Under his captaincy, the Bengaluru-based franchise qualified for the IPL final only one time, in 2016, but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the summit clash.

After Royal Challengers Bengaluru released Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli was expected to resume his role as the RCB skipper. Interestingly, RCB also did not go for any captaincy candidate in the IPL 2025 mega auction and it cemented the belief of the fans that the 'Chasemaster'  will return as the RCB skipper. But interestingly, it was Rajat Patidar who was annointed as the RCB captain.

Kohli undoubtedly is in the fag end of his career and he has repeatedly stressed upon the fact that he wants to enjoy his game now. Kohli not only relinquished the RCB captaincy, but also gave away the leadership duties of the Indian team back in 2021-22.
