Why the Indian team was wearing the black armband?

India players and support staff wore black armbands on Sunday during their World Cup 2023 match against England in Lucknow in memory of legendary Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away due to illness on October 23. As India players walked out for the national anthems at the Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Stadium in Lucknow, the players were wearing black armbands. On-air commentators Ravi Shastri and Nasser Hussain also paid homage to the former India captain, remembering his heroics with the ball in a storied career that inspired millions. Bishan Singh Bedi died aged 77 in New Delhi after a long battle with illness. The left-arm spinner's funeral was attended by several former India cricketers, including Kapil Dev and Ajay Jadeja, who has been working as the mentor of the Afghanistan cricket team in World Cup 2023.
