India Raises Issue of Seizing Guru Granth Sahib with Qatar, Assures All Possible Assistence

Doha: The Government of India has addressed the issue of the Guru Granth Sahib being seized by Qatari authorities with the counterparts in Doha,said the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement. The Indian Embassy in Qatar is in touch with Qatari government and initiating all possible actions. 

The MEA stated, "We have noted reports regarding the seizure of the Guru Granth Sahib by Qatari authorities and the Sikh community's demand for its release. The Government has already raised this issue with Qatar, and our embassy in Doha is keeping the Sikh community informed about the developments."

The statement further clarified, "It is important to note that two copies of the Guru Granth Sahib were taken by Qatari authorities from individuals or groups charged with operating a religious establishment without the approval of the Qatari government."

The Indian Embassy in Qatar is providing all possible assistance within the framework of local laws and regulations. One copy of the holy book has been returned by the Qatari authorities, who have assured that the remaining copy is being kept with respect.

The MEA continues to follow up with Qatari authorities on this matter with high priority and hopes for a swift resolution.
