Indian-Origin Lawyer, Norfolk Southern CEO Sacked Over 'Inappropriate Relationship' at Workplace

The company said though the relationship was consensual, officials said that they violated the company's policies and code of ethics by engaging in a relation.

Washington: Nabanita Nag, an Indian-origin lawyer has been fired over an alleged 'inappropriate relationship' with the CEO of the company.

Nag, the Chief Legal Officer at Norfolk Southern Corporation (NSC) was sacked from her role after an investigation claimed that she was involved in a 'consensual relationship' with her boss, Alan Shaw, Chief Executive Officer, who was also fired for the same.

As per Norfolk Southern Corporation, though the relationship was consensual, officials said that they violated the company's policies and code of ethics by engaging in a relationship.

The company in a press release stated that the move "comes in connection with preliminary findings from an ongoing investigation that determined Shaw violated company policies by engaging in a consensual relationship with the company's chief legal officer. Shaw's departure is unrelated to the company's performance, financial reporting and results of operations."

Who is Nabanita Nag?

The Indian-origin lawyer has a bachelor's degree in Government and English from Georgetown University. She also earned a Juris Doctor (JD) from the New York University School of Law.

Nag joined Norfolk in 2020 as General Counsel. According to her LinkedIn profile, she called herself a "seasoned leader" who has worked with three Fortune 300 public companies. Earlier she was working at  Goldman Sachs.

She was appointed as the Chief Legal Officer in 2022 and the Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs in 2023.
