BCCI Expected To Revamp Central Contracts; A+ Grade Poised To Be Scrapped, Rohit & Kohli May Be Demoted To Grade B: Report

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised to shake up the central contracts' structure framework. There is significant buzz around abolishing the Grade A+ category, and it may also make some other changes in the system.

A total of 34 Indian cricketers are currently under a central contract with the BCCI, with star players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma being placed in the top category and receiving the highest payout from the Indian cricket board.

BCCI May Implement Structural Changes On Central Contracts System

The BCCI is expected to implement a revised central contractual structure, which may have some significant changes. If the new system receives the board's approval, the central contracts of star Indian players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be affected.

According to ANI, sources have revealed that the BCCI's revised contract structure suggests discontinuation of the Grade A+ category and continuing with the A, B and C categories.

The changes to the central contracts' framework have been proposed by the selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar. A decision on the new central contracts' model will be made at the BCCI's next apex council meeting.

Abolition Of Grade A+ Would Demote Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli

The abolition of the Grade A+ category would mean that the top four cricketers (Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja) would be shifted. Grade A+ category players receive INR 7 crore.

If the A+ category gets scrapped, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be moved to the Grade B category. The famed Indian cricketing duo is now exclusive to ODI cricket after retiring from T20Is and Test cricket.

Seam bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja are expected to be placed in Grade A. The other Indian cricketers who are a part of the group are Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami. Grade A players receive INR 5 Crore.
