Rishabh Pant, the Indian test vice captain, suffered a tremendous injury setback and had to be retired hurt from the first innings in the fourth test match between India and England at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter was hit directly in the foot while attempting a reverse sweep.

It could leave India vulnerable as Pant's swashbuckling abilities and sensational wicketkeeping skills have proven effective for the Indian side. 

Rishabh Pant Suffers Dreadful Foot Injury During Day One Of Old Trafford Test

In the fourth ball of the 68th over, Rishabh Pant tried to hit an audacious shot off Chris Woakes' slower ball which directly hit Pant's foot. England heavily appealed for an LBW, which was turned down by the umpire, Upon reviewing, the UltraEdge determined that there was a thin edge off the bat before it hit the India vice captain, deeming that Pant was safe. 

However, the India captain was hobbling in one foot and looked in discomfort, leading to him being treated on the field by the team physio. The injury looked bad as his right foot had swelled up to the size of a ping pong ball.

The Indian wicketkeeper-batter looked in severe pain and had to be retired hurt. Pant was taken off the field with the physio helping him out before the ambulance buggy was brought in. Ravindra Jadeja stepped in to continue the action as Pant had to be retired hurt.

Rishabh Pant's Injury A Massive Setback To India's Already Hurt Line-Up

Rishabh Pant's injury setback has become one of Team India's latest injury setbacks. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter was already dealing with a finger issue, and the foot issue would become a huge problem for him and the team.

Apart from Rishabh Pant, Team India have already sustained injury setbacks before the Manchester Test. India all-rounder Nitish Reddy was ruled out of the remaining England Tests after suffering a knee injury.

Akash Deep was also ruled out of the fourth test due to a groin issue, while Arshdeep Singh was also left out of the action at Old Trafford. The BCCI medical team is monitoring their progress.

As of now, the Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) is yet to issue an update on the Indian wicketkeeper-batter.
