In the world of K-pop, when music meets business, sometimes one has to face lot of hurdles. BlACkPINK member Jennie aka Jennie Kim born and raised in South Korea who is all set for her new song is now facing allegations of copying from a Bollywood song.
Did Jennie copy a song from Bollywood for her upcoming song?
BLACKPINK Jennie’s new song Like Jennie teaser was dropped by the makers. As soon it was unveiled, it sparked a debate among netizens after they found similarities between the teaser and Alia Bhatt ’s theme song from Rocky Aur Rani KII Prem Kahaani. It starred Ranveer Singh , Dharmendra, Shabana Azmi, Jaya Bachchan and Anjali Anand among others. The film released in 2023.
Netizens on social media platforms including X and Reddit took to comment section to share their viewpoint. One user wrote, “Well well well..how the turntables”. Another user wrote, “No but you know what you should really be worried about? Jennie stealing ideas from smaller artists again. It’s an entire collection and talking abt buying things…”. “Jennie just plagiarised Bollywood omg the wars are gonna be insane’, wrote the third user. Another social media user wrote, “Are we sure the Rani one is the original one and not a copy of some other artist?”.
Jennie had announced about her upcoming song on Instagram. Along with the bunch of pictures, she wrote in the caption, ‘RUBY. LIKE JENNIE coming this friday march 7th.”

BLACKPINK Jennie’s rise to stardom
Jennie had also released other single- Solo in 2018 which topped the charts within no time. She became the first Korean female soloist to surpass one billion views. In 2023- You & Me , One of the Girls achieved commercial success worldwide and became number one.
Jennie had made her debut in South Korean girl group BLACKPINK (Rose, Lisa and Jisoo) in 2016. She had also made her acting debut in the series The Idol. She also established her own company, Odd Atelier, at the start of 2024. After establishing her own label named Odd Atelier and signing with Columbia Records in 2024, she earned her second number-one single on the Circle Digital Chart with Spot! and the highest-charting song by a Korean female solo artist on the UK Singles Chart with Mantra.
She has received several accolades throughout her career, including four MAMA Awards, a Circle Chart Music Award, and a Golden Disc Award. She is the most-followed Korean individual on Instagram.
