New Delhi: Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a 1987-batch IAS officer from the Odisha cadre, has been appointed by the Prime Minister Modi-led Government as the new Chairman of SEBI .
Tuhin Kanta Pandey will succeed Madhabi Puri Buch, whose tenure as SEBI Chief ends on February 28.
Who is Tuhin Kanta Pandey?
Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a 1987-batch officer from the Odisha cadre, is widely recognized for his significant role in the Modi 3.0 government, overseeing multiple key departments.
Pandey’s government career includes leading four important departments. He first served as the Secretary of the Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and later took on additional responsibilities as Secretary of the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) following the retirement of Ali Raza Rizvi.
Tuhin Kanta was later appointed Finance Secretary in the Ministry of Finance (MOF), further expanding his influence in key government sectors.
He also took on the role of Secretary of the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) after Vivek Joshi returned to his home state, making Pandey one of the most occupied secretaries in the PM Modi administration.
Pandey's Early Career & Education
Tuhin Kanta Pandey holds an Master of Arts in Economics and English from Panjab University.
He also holds an Master of Business Administration from the University of Birmingham.
Pandey has served as the District Collector in Sambalpur, Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, and held several key roles in sectors such as health, transport, and commercial taxes.
