Champions Trophy 2025: Australia successfully chased down the highest-ever target which has been set in the ICC Champions Trophy . England scored 351 and looked utterly dominant in the competition. But the Aussies did not back down from the challenge as they chased the colossal target with ease. Despite facing some resistance from the English bowling attack, the Aussie batters' composure allowed them to race past the given target and gave a fitting response to England's bazball. Australia open their CT campaign with a banger of a performance against England and secured a win by 5 wickets.
Australia Thrash Bazball After Successful Run Chase, Defeat England By Five Wickets
Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis delivered one of the finest knocks when Australia needed him the most in Champions Trophy. The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore witnessed a spectacle as a classic rivalry added a new chapter in it's book. Australia delivered the knock of a lifetime, and the ODI World Champions showed why they were the best in the format. Apart from Inglis' brilliance, opener Matt Short and Marnus Labuschagne contributed well with the bat.
The crucial part of Australia's innings was when Alex Carey paired up with Josh Inglis to forge a critical partnership to elevate the team against England's bowling attack. Glenn Maxwell also scored a 15-ball 32 to help the Aussie's case before the Stumper smacked a six to end the game with a win for their side.
Notably, Australia's five-wicket win over England was the highest-ever chase by a team in an ICC white-ball tournament.
England Batter Ben Duckett Made History At Champions Trophy
England looked confident with the bat as they delivered a cracking innings against the Australian bowling attack. Opener Ben Duckett delivered one of his finest knocks of his career by scoring 165 off 143 balls before being dismissed via lbw. The English batter's sheer brilliance propelled England to a score of 351/8, which is the highest score ever in the history of the Champions Trophy. Duckett's 165 was also the highest indiviual score in the marquee ICC tournament. But the Aussies pulled off a record-setting chase to defeat England in the Champions Trophy opener match-up.
