'I Need To Be There': India Youngster Vows Towards Consistent Refinement In Post Rohit-Kohli Era
After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's T20I retirement, the onus of taking the team forward now falls upon the young players of Team India who need to step up
IND vs ZIM T20I Series: Rohit Sharma-led Team India scripted history in Barbados by winning the T20 World Cup on June 29, 2024. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the greats of the game and have served the country to the best of their capabilities across formats. When the entire country was celebrating India's famous and iconic victory at Barbados, both Rohit and Virat announced their T20I retirement. In his retirement speech, Kohli said that Indian youngsters have it in them to keep the flag flying high.
Washington Sundar Aims Consistency In Post Rohit-Kohli Era
Tamil Nadu youngster Washington Sundar is one of the finds of Indian cricket and is equally good with the bat and the ball. One of the heroes of India's famous win in Gabba in 2021, Sundar's career has been plagued with various injuries over a long period of time. Sundar has all the skills required to be a quality all-rounder for the 'men in blue' but he is yet to find his footing in the international arena.
During India's recent outing in the 3rd T20I against Zimbabwe, Sundar claimed 3 wickets and conceded just 15 runs in his quota of 4 overs. After the match Sundar reflected on few things and the honour to play for India.
Sundar said:
It's a great opportunity for me to play for India. That's a great blessing for me. I need to be there every single day giving my 100 per cent. And that's something I have not compromised on. I've always been giving 100 per cent every season, every single practice session, and obviously in games as well. It keeps me just in the present and obviously it's very important to be in the present and just just put up those good performances regularly.
