Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc has made history by becoming the fastest bowler to take 100 ODI wickets in Australia, surpassing legendary compatriot Brett Lee's record. Starc achieved this milestone during the first ODI against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), where he delivered an impressive performance with the ball.

Mitchell Starc achieves major milestone

Mitchell Starc's feat is all the more impressive considering he reached the milestone in just 54 innings, outdoing Brett Lee's record of 55 innings. Glenn McGrath, another Australian legend, is third on the list, having taken his 100th ODI wicket in Australia in his 56th innings.

Mitchell Starc's performance in the first ODI was instrumental in Australia's victory, taking three wickets for 33 runs in his 10 overs at an economy rate of 3.33. He got the wickets of both the Pakistan openers Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, as well as the scalp of Shaheen Shah Afridi.

This achievement is a testament to Mitchell Starc's skill and consistency as a bowler, and he becomes the 30th player to have taken 100 ODI wickets or more in any country. South African legend Shaun Pollock holds the record for the most ODI wickets taken in a single country, with an impressive 197 wickets in South Africa.

Australia's win in the first ODI sets the tone for the rest of the series, and Mitchell Starc's performance will undoubtedly be a key factor in their success. Pakistan and Australia will play two more ODI games before moving on to the T20I series. Following the Pakistan series, Australia will lock horns against India in a five-match Test series called the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
