Mohammed Shami REVEALS Mystery Behind 'Flying Kiss' Celebration; Thanks Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir For Support Before CT 25

Spotlight was on veteran Mohammed Shami in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah ahead of India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener versus Bangladesh . He had not played a lot of international cricket coming into the game, but he showed no signs of it on Thursday in Dubai. Shami came up with the heroics as he picked up five wickets to bundle out Bangladesh for 228. He conceded 53 runs on a track that seemed good for batting in the first half of the game. But what stole the show was his ‘flying kiss’ celebration after picking up the fifer. After the game, Shami spoke about the reason behind the celebration. The pacer said that the celebration was for his father who had passed away in 2017.

‘For my father’

“That is for my father because he is my role model. He is always there for me,” he said.

He also spoke about the support he got from Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir during his rehab days. 

‘Very important for every player to have this support’

“Whether it's a question of the captain or the coach, it's very important for every player to have this support. Because when you plan for such a big tournament, if you have players who trust you, it gives you peace of mind for the captain and the team. I always try to do my best. The one who gives is sitting on top, so he will give as much as he is destined to," Shami said.

Despite his five wickets in the game, young Shubman Gill bagged the player of the match for his brilliant unbeaten century. With the win, India have surely strengthened their chances of making it to the semi-final. Team India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their next game on February 23.
