'Pakistan Cricket Is Gone': Sarfraz Nawaz Slams PCB After Hosts End Up Being Embarrassed In Champions Trophy 2025
Former Pakistan cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz has slammed the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB for the Champions Trophy hosts' elimination from the marquee ICC tournament.
Champions Trophy 2025: Former Pakistan bowler Sarfraz Nawaz expressed disappointment over Pakistan Cricket's recent downfall and has blatantly blamed the Pakistan Cricket Board's administrators for its downfall. The ex-cricketer revealed he had suggested the inclusion of spinners like Noman Ali and Sajid Khan, who have delivered spectacular performances in the past. But his suggestions were not taken into consideration.
Ex-Pakistan Bowler Slams PCB After Hosts' Dreadful Run
Pakistan Cricket slumped to a new low when they became the first team to be kicked out of the ICC Champions Trophy. It was shambolic for the side as the host nation was eliminated from the competition. PAK suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of New Zealand and India, and the setback was enormous for the side. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side and the PCB received intense criticism over the ousting, with former PAK bowler Sarfraz Nawaz delivering a scathing response over their loss.
“The team (for the Champions Trophy) was unbalanced. Some players were selected because of backing from higher authorities. When the team was announced, I wrote to the chairman of the PCB suggesting spinners like Sajid Khan and Noman Ali, who had wrecked England earlier. They performed well against the West Indies too, but they were not picked at all.
“There’s no doubt (that India have left Pakistan far behind)… Pakistan cricket is gone now. I think it’s because of all the PCB officials running the board. They are non-cricketers; they are bureaucrats. That’s why I think they don’t know how to go about things like that. They’ve picked people who previously destroyed Pakistan cricket. And then there are frequent changes in the PCB. Within a year and a half, there were three chairmen and four captains. What else do you expect?” Sarfaraz Nawaz said to Cricbuzz.
Pakistan Fall To A New Low After CT Loss
Pakistan Cricket slumped to a new low after suffering heavy defeats at the hands of New Zealand and India, which effectively ended their chance to advance in the competition. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side had an opportunity to secure at least one win and end their competition with a win against Bangladesh.
However, their chances were derailed as incessant rain showers thwarted their plans to end their Champions Trophy campaign with a small beam of positivity. Pakistan ended up with just one point after the abandonment of the match led to both sides sharing a point each.
Pakistan, Bangladesh and England's chances have effectively ended, and the remaining sides will now vie for the spot in the semifinal. India and South Africa have officially secured a spot, and group B teams are now in action to clinch the remaining positions.
