'He Brought That X-Factor': R. Ashwin's Blunt Take On ICC Handing Player Of The Tournament Award To Rachin Ravindra
Rachin Ravindra was awarded the man of the tournament award for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
India and New Zealand after excellent campaigns in the group stages and knock out stages reached the final of the ICC Champions Trophy as the tournament returned after more than seven years. In the final which was played in Dubai, India got the better of New Zealand by four wickets to lift the trophy. During the award ceremony following India's massive win, ICC awarded the player of the tournament to New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra. However Indian Cricket legend Ravichandran Ashwin disagrees with ICC's choice of recipient of the award.
Ravichandran Ashwin's Blunt Take On Rachin Ravindra Winning Player Of Tournament
New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra was adjudged as the man of the tournament for the ICC Champions Trophy but Ravichandran Ashwin disagrees with this decision. According to Ashwin, the award should have been given to Indian spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
"The Player of the Tournament, in my opinion, was Varun Chakaravarthy. He didn't play the entire tournament but he was such a big difference. If Varun Chakaravarthy wasn't there, I think this game would have gone very differently. He brought that X-factor and the novelty factor. If I were the judge, I would have given it to Varun. He was the biggest difference," said Ravichandran Ashwin on his Youtube channel 'Ash Ki Baat'.
Ashwin In Awe Of Chakravarthy's Ball Which Dismissed Glen Phillips
Ashwin while further speaking on his youtube channel was in awe of Varun Chakravarthy's delivery which had picked up the wicket of Glen Phillips.
"Just look at how he dismissed Glenn Phillips. He wasn't covering the stumps, so Varun went wide of the crease and bowled that googly. In my view, Varun has to be the Player of the Series. The award should be given to someone who made a difference. Varun Chakaravarthy deserves the award," Ashwin further added in the video uploaded on his Youtube channel.
