ICC Champions Trophy 2025: It was a night to forget for England as they lost against Afghanistan in a crucial Champions Trophy 2025 game on Wednesday and are now knocked out of the mega event. Following their shock loss against Afghanistan, the English team is facing the heat from all quarters. Without a doubt, England started as the overwhelming favourites to win the game.

But then, the way the spirited Afghans played was highly commendable. Following the loss, former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer subtly roasted former English captain Michael Vaughan. It is no secret that both the former cricketers are close friends as well. After England lost, Jaffer took to social media and asked Vaughan if he was okay. Jaffer also shared a viral meme along with the caption.

For Afghanistan, it was Ibrahim Zadran who stole the show with a breathtaking 177 off 146 balls. His innings was laced with 12 fours and six maximums.

‘That 177 is a special moment for me’ - Zadran

"That 177 is a special moment for me. We have played here last time in Asia Cup , so I had the idea. I wanted to take time and play proper cricketing shots and that worked for me so I’m happy. When you win a game, it gives you a lot of energy and it gives you confidence," he said at the post-match presentation.

Can Afghanistan Still Qualify?

Yes, Afghanistan can still qualify. They have a game remaining and that is against Australia. Against Australia, it will not be easy for Afghanistan to win, but again, you cannot dare to write them off. Afghanistan came perilously close to beating Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The players would surely take inspiration from that game before they lock horns with Australia in Lahore. Afghanistan take on Australia on February 28.
