'When Rohit Sharma leaves, he should be India captain': Virender Sehwag names India's next skipper
Virender Sehwag believes the BCCI is grooming Team India's next skipper and offers a massive take on the man who could succeed Rohit Sharma.
Team India has been a rampant force in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup as they continue their onslaught in the group stage and Super 8s. The Men in Blue shined with the bat and the ball as they held on to their dominant side to reach the semifinal stage. One of the team's star attractions is Rohit Sharma, who was a beast unleashed when the Man in Blue faced Australia in a Super 8 clash. Team India was able to avenge their ODI World Cup loss and also thwart the AUS' chances to qualify for the semis. But what about the team after Rohit departs or steps down? Who will be the next man in line? Virender Sehwag believes a man is being groomed for the job.

Virender Sehwag believes BCCI may have the man in line who will take over as the skipper after Rohit Sharma
During an interaction with Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag touched upon the Indian squad who will represent the side at Harare when they face Zimbabwe. The former India cricketer believes making Shubman Gill the skipper for the tour was an appropriate call by the management and selectors. He also believes Gill will be the man who will be lifting the torch whenever Rohit Sharma steps down as the skipper.
“Shubman Gill is for the long haul. He's a player who plays all three formats. He's had a great last year. He was unlucky to miss out on the 2024 T20 World Cup. According to me, it is the right decision to make him the captain. When Rohit Sharma leaves tomorrow, Shubman Gill will be his right replacement for captaincy,” Sehwag affirmed.

The Zimbabwe tour will be the first time when Shubman Gill will lead the national side. Previously, he was elected as the skipper of the IPL's Gujarat Titans, where he had a decent season leading the side. It is yet to be seen on how effective will Shubman Gill be as the skipper.
