The unveiling was done in the presence of several notable personalities, including BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, among others. However, the netizens were quick to find out that the statue resembled Australian cricketer Steve Smith rather than the master blaster of cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar shares his thoughts on the statue's unveil

For Sachin Tendulkar, it was a big moment in his life as he was able to secure a position in the place that has been instrumental in his cricket career. The former India cricketer took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude after he unveiled the statue.

While expressing his thoughts, Tendulkar mentioned, 'To think that I first stepped foot in Wankhede as a fan, then went on to be the ball boy in the '87 World Cup, lifted the 2011 World Cup, and played my last international game here – it is a journey words can't capture.'
