Papon Pays Last Respects To His 'Bondhu' And Legendary Singer Zubeen Garg, Shares Heartbreaking Photo From His Funeral

Assam's son and legendary singer Zubeen Garg was laid to rest on September 23 with full State honours. A day after his funeral, his good friend and singer Papon took to his Instagram account to share a photo with his mortal remains, along with an emotional caption. Papon is a popular Bollywood playback singer known for Bulleya, Jiyein Kyun, Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, among others.

On September 24, Papon shared a photo from Zubeen Garg's last rites in which his mortal remains could be seen lying inside a transparent box. The singer, dressed in white, paid a final tribute to him by partaking in his final journey. He shared the photo with the caption, “Goodbye friend.... Be happy wherever you are”.

Assam Chief Minister, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju attend Zubeen Garg's funeral 

Noted singer and composer Zubeen Garg was on Tuesday cremated with full state honours in Kamarkuchi on the outskirts of Guwahati. A gun salute was given to Zubeen at the crematorium in Kamarkuchi village in Sonapur. Hundreds of people gathered at the crematorium to bid an emotional farewell to their beloved singer. Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, paid floral tributes and wrote in a post on his social media, “The last time that I got to see #BelovedZubeen. From now on, he will live in Assam's soul, mind and hearts." Union Minister Kiren Rijiju paid his last respects to Garg at the crematorium in Kamarkuchi.

Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore during a swimming mishap. The cause of his death is being ascertained as a case of accidental drowning.
