Agni-4 Ballistic Missile Successfully Test-Fired With Strike Range Of Over 4000 Km in Odisha

Balasore ( Odisha ): India has successfully test-fired the Agni-4 ballistic missile, defence sources confirmed on Friday. The launch took place at the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha . The missile, an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM), validated all operational and technical parameters, ensuring its reliability and capability.

Strategic Forces Command Oversees Launch  

The test was conducted under the Strategic Forces Command, which operates under India’s Nuclear Command Authority (NCA). The Agni-4 missile, capable of striking targets up to 4,000 kilometers away, marks a significant enhancement in India's missile technology.

Standing at 20 meters in length, the Agni-4 can carry a 1,000 kg payload and can be fired from a road-mobile launcher, providing both flexibility and strategic mobility for the Indian defense forces.

Background on Agni-4 Development

First test-launched in 2012, Agni-4 covered more than 3,000 kilometers in just 20 minutes. The missile was previously known as Agni-2 Prime before its upgrade. The Agni series, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has seen significant advancements, culminating in the development of the long-range Agni-5 missile.
