Nation Mourns Tragic Demise Of Maharashtra Deputy CM In Baramati: Who is Ajit Pawar Survived By?

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party chief Ajit Pawar breathed his last at 66 in a tragic plane crash at Baramati this morning. Pawar was headed to Baramati to attend a public rally for the Zilla Parishad Elections. He was on board the chartered plane with three others, and the DGCA officials confirmed that there are no survivors in the fatal plane crash.

Ajit Pawar hailed from one of Maharashtra's most influential families 

Ajit Pawar came from a family that has been inseparable from Maharashtra politics for a long time now. The deputy chief minister's immediate family members include his wife and two sons. His wife, Sunetra Ajit Pawar, is also actively involved in state politics. She is currently serving asa  Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. She often accompanied Pawar to political events and rallies.

The couple, married in 1985, are parents to two sons, Parth and Jay Pawar. Their elder son, Parth, also tried his hand at politics. He contested elections from the Maval parliamentary constituency in 2019 and lost by a large margin, breaking the family tradition of never losing in polls. His younger son, Jay, recently tied the knot with Rutuja Patil in December 2025.

Apart from his immediate family, Ajit Pawar was closely associated with the NCP founder and leader, Sharad Pawar, who is his uncle. Sharad Pawar served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra four times in the past. Inadvertently, his daughter and Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, Supriya Sule, is the cousin of Ajit Pawar. On hearing the news of his sudden demise, Sunetra, Supriya, and Parth Pawar rushed to Baramati at the site of the crash.

Ajit Pawar was the longest-serving Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra non-consecutively. He served in the position for six terms within various governments. He had worked as deputy chief minister in the cabinets of Prithviraj Chavan, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde.
