Dark circles: Home remedies to treat dark circles under the eyes

Dark circles are caused due to the visibility of blood vessels under the eye due to the skin becoming thin. Here are home remedies to get rid of dark circles.

Lack of sleep due to hectic schedules is a part of a sedentary lifestyle. However, bearing with the cons of no sleep days can be tough. Dark circles are one of the most common problems that occur due to lack of sleep. They can also be caused due to aging as skin loses its natural collagen and thickness. Due to this, the blood vessels can be evidently visible. As a result, the area under the eye turns darker. Dealing with them can be difficult but there are a couple of home remedies that could help you to take care of them. They are easy and effective too. Let’s look at some of the home remedies to remove dark circles.

Aloe Vera gel

Aloe vera gel contains compounds that help in preventing excessive pigmentation. It also hydrates the skin under the eye, lightening the dark circles. Apply aloe vera gel on the dark circles and gently massage. Leave it overnight and rinse off in the morning. Follow this process every night for getting rid of dark circles.

Cucumber

Cucumber is a huge source of bioactive compounds and vitamins that help in dealing with dark circles. Take one cucumber and 1 tbsp of aloe vera gel. Blend cucumber to make a pulp. Add aloe vera gel to it and make a fine paste. Apply this paste on the dark circles and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash it off with water.

Tomato

Tomatoes are rich in phytochemicals that help in reversing the effect of pigmentation. This can help in getting rid of dark circles that develop under the eyes. Take two tomatoes and 1 tbsp of lemon juice. Make a paste of the tomatoes and add lemon juice to it. Apply a generous amount of this paste onto the area under your eyes. Leave it for 20 minutes and then wash it off.

Caution: Lemon juice can cause a stinging sensation on your skin, so you must do a patch test before trying this remedy.

Lemon Juice

Lemon contains a high amount of Vitamin C. Vitamin C has anti-pigmentation properties and can help increase the dermal thickness under the eyes. This conceals the blood vessels that are visible due to skin becoming thin and eliminate dark circles. Take some lemon juice and dip a cotton pad into it. Apply it on the affected area. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse it off.

Cold tea bags

Soak a chamomile or green tea bag in water. Chill it by placing it in the refrigerator for a while. Place it over your eyes. The caffeine may help to narrow the blood vessels around your eye and constrict blood flow.
