One of the assumptions posted by a portal dictates that during the 1840s, certain European monarchs became the first fathers-in-law. Christian IX of Denmark and Nicholas I of Montenegro had their children married to foreign princes and princesses and thus they came to be known as fathers-in-law. Another theory prompts that Father-in-Law Day was celebrated due to a greeting card company. The company had a campaign in which they focused on boosting sales and thus Father-in-Law Day as a concept was created. The year when this happened has not been known, according to the portal.
