Former India Bowler Issues Warning About Rapidly Introducing Pacer Mayank Yadav into BGT Discussion

Mayank Yadav's greatness in his debut match has been nothing less than exemplary. The India upstart had a spectacular time in Gwalior after his potent showcase, which has put him in contention for a spot at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. However, a former India pacer urges the selectors and management to not rush into things and push Mayank Yadav as he sets foot into the International fold.

RP Singh Claims It's Too Soon To Push Debutant Pacer Mayank Yadav into BGT Discussion

While speaking in an interaction arranged by JioCinema, Indian bowling legend RP Singh opened up on debutant Mayank Yadav possibly being fast-tracked into Team India's strategy for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will take place in various venues in Australia. While Singh feels satisfied with Mayank's pace and command, he believes it is far too soon for him to participate in the five-match Test series Down Under. Instead, he wants Akash Deep to be a part of India's pace bowling attack.

“For Australia tour, Akash Deep should be in the pace bowling attack. His bowling style suits better. Mayank Yadav has pace, which is one aspect of fast bowling. There are many variations and skills that develop slowly. For Mayank, he is in the developing phase. There is a lot of load in the Test match. Your patience and skills get tested.

"He is yet to play the amount of domestic cricket which Akash Deep or Mohammed Shami played (before being selected). Mayank is yet to come in that category. Akash Deep is a better choice,” RP Singh said.

The left-arm fast bowler went on to say that although Mayank Yadav is a good pace bowler, pace bowling will be important for them. However, he should develop his skills further, and a plan should be in place to achieve that. With the assistance of the NCA and the other BCCI coaches, Singh believes that he must succeed on his own.

Mayank Yadav began his international career with a single over. After coming in to bowl against Bangladesh in the fifth over, he bowed an entire over to Towhid Hridoy, who failed to get a run. If that wasn't stunning enough, the pacer dismissed BAN veteran Mahmudullah in the second ball of his second over. Mayank did not reach the 150 mark, but he came close with 149.9 in the third ball of the seventh over.
