Here's why Chennai crowd celebrated Shubman Gill's dismissal

But what prompted this unusual celebration? The answer lies in the sheer popularity of the next batsman, Virat Kohli . The Chennai crowd was thrilled to see Kohli walk out to bat, and their excitement knew no bounds. The fact that Indian fans celebrated the dismissal of their own player, Shubman Gill, to witness Kohli's batting prowess is a testament to the latter's massive fan following, not just in India but globally.

Shubman Gill, who had come out to bat after Rohit Sharma 's dismissal, was sent back to the pavilion for a duck. He was dismissed by Hasan Mahmud in the 8th over while attempting to play a delivery that was going down the leg side. Little did Gill know that his departure would trigger a joyous celebration in the stands.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli himself couldn't last long in the middle as he was removed by Hasan Mahmud while attempting to drive an outside-off delivery. Kohli was dismissed for six runs off six balls. India looked in deep trouble as they lost three wickets for 34 runs on the board.

However, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant then forged a crucial partnership to ensure things didn't slip away completely for the hosts. India went into lunch with 88/3 in 23 overs. Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as he took three wickets to his name in the first session of the match.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field first against India in Chennai. The Indian side lost early wickets in the form of skipper Rohit Sharma , Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli .
