'Tried my best to forget': SA Batter Still Struggles to Come to Terms with T20 WC 2024 Loss to India
Almost two months have passed yet the Indian cricket fans might not have reached the saturation limit of taking pride in the fact that they witnessed India win.
Almost two months have passed yet the Indian cricket fans might not have reached the saturation limit of taking pride in the fact that they witnessed India win the T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29, 2024. The victory was a long time coming as fans were constantly waiting for the ICC trophy hoodoo to end. The moment did arrive and has become immortalised in the rich history of Indian cricket.
Victory and defeat goes hand in hand
While the glory of victory spews delight and elation, the loss also walks hand in hand with sports and often spreads agony and pain. Luckily for the Indian fans! India were not at the receiving end this time, as it might have caused major vexation losing two World Cup finals in 9 months. Nevertheless, India won the T20 World Cup and now South Africa is enduring the burden of that loss.
The Proteas had the chance of winning its first-ever World Cup, and they got themselves in the position to win the match as well. However, Team India pulled off a clutch performance at the crucial stage and snatched victory from the shackles of defeat. The Indian fans would want to remember the match again and again, but for South African fans and its players, it became a chapter to forget, much like the infamous 1999 semi-final against Australia.
Tristan Stubbs on dealing with the plight of loss
SA batter Tristan Stubbs, who was a part of the India vs SA T20 World Cup final, recently admitted that he still finds it difficult to wrap his head around the fact that South Africa lost the final.
"T20 WC Final result comes up when you don't want it to. I've tried my best to forget, but it's not easy. Someone the other night told us about this and you're like, 'you don't have to tell us, if you feel bad for us'...Some things you don't want to remember," Stubbs told IOL.
