Virat Kohli Inches Closer to the 9,000-Run Mark in Tests, Aiming to Achieve the Milestone vs BAN

As the Indian cricket team starts its first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai.  The BAN have won the toss and have elected to bowl first. This displays that Virat Kohli will start fresh on the pitch as he returns to serve glory to the nation under new head coach Gautam Gambhir .  Well, not only that Kohli will eye to create new milestones during the two match series.

Virat Kohli eyes 9000 Test runs in India vs Bangladesh series

As he prepares for the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli is expected to aim for major milestones. Starting on September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, this game marks the start of a two-match series; the second Test is set to begin on September 27 in Kanpur. Head coach Gautam Gambhir will be keen to get his first job a series triumph.

Kohli has made a strong start to the ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 after missing the prior home series against England because of the birth of his second kid. With 369 runs in four matches and six innings, he averages 61.50, including one century and two fifties; his best score is 121.

Needing only 152 more runs to surpass the 9,000-run mark in Test cricket, Kohli is on close approach. As the fourth Indian to accomplish this feat, he would join the likes of luminaries Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, and Sunil Gavaskar. With a personal high of 254. He has so far amassed 8,848 runs in 113 Tests at an average of 49.15, with 29 centuries and 30 fifties. With 15,921 runs over 200 matches, Tendulkar is still India's all-time top run-scorer in tests.

With a total of 26,942 runs in 533 appearances at an average of 53.35, Kohli also stands fourth in international cricket history. Currently standing at only 58 runs short of 27,000 international runs, he has amassed 80 centuries and 140 fifties.

Having achieved just 296 runs in 14 games with an average of 19.73, including a solitary half-century in 15 innings, this series offers Kohli a great chance to recover from a demanding year. His yearly best score is 76.

Following the Bangladesh series, Rohit Sharma 's squad will play New Zealand in a three-Test series commencing October 16. Later, the highly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia will commence on November 22.
