Wilders, who backed Nupur Sharma, wins Dutch polls

Geert Wilders, a Dutch far-right populist known for his anti-Islam stances, was set for a major victory in the Netherlands parliamentary election. He is in the pole position to become the new Prime Minister, exit polls showed. Geert Wilders is known in India as the politician who had defended now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma for her controversial comments on Prophet Mohammed in 2022. Wilders, who is known for his anti-Islam stances and vowed to halt immigration to the Netherlands, defied predictions and his Freedom Party (PVV) was projected to win 35 out of 150 seats, according to the exit polls, news agency Reuters reported. Exit polls in the Netherlands are generally reliable with a margin of error of roughly two seats.
