At Least 22 Killed As Man Opens Fire In Maine

The man identified as a person of interest in the mass shooting in Maine is a firearms instructor trained by the military who was recently committed to a mental health facility, according to official documents. The shootings at a bowling alley and a bar in Lewiston on Wednesday night killed at least 16 people, wounded dozens, and engulfed the state's second-largest city in chaos. The suspect remained at large as authorities ordered residents and business owners to stay inside and off the streets. Mike Sauschuck of the Maine Department of Public Safety told reporters that police were searching for Robert R. Card but stressed that he was a person of interest for now. A police intelligence bulletin circulated to law enforcement officials and reviewed by The Associated Press after the shootings said Card had been trained as a firearms instructor at a U.S. Army Reserve training facility in Maine.
