Italy's hospital ship is rescuing Palestinians

Italy announced on Wednesday they will send a hospital ship to be stationed off the coast of Gaza to aid the Palestinian population amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.The Vulcano ship was expected to depart Civitavecchia with 170 people on board, including medical and military personnel, and is fitted with operating rooms.It will first head to Cyprus and then as close as possible to the conflict zone to provide emergency medical support. Anaesthesiologist Matteo Zucco said the ship's medical facilities would provide the same assistance that could be found at regular hospitals. The anaesthesiologist onboard Vulcano hospital ship said that, At full gear this hospital can host eight people in intensive care and 15 people in ordinary hospitalisation. For this mission eight people is the maximum number due to the drugs and oxygen supplies we have in the long term. Our duty is to stabilise the patients and later transfer them to the closer hospital.
