Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard Shut Down For Day
Workers Union has called a shutdown of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard for one day in Maharashtra’s Pune on November 01. The market has been shut in support of ongoing Maratha Reservation protests. All businesses and trades under the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) have been shut down. Notably, Maratha community agitation gained momentum after quota activist Manoj Jarange sat on an indefinite hunger strike from October 25. However, after the assurance of a solution by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Jarange ended his fast. “...Maratha people should get the reservation. Manoj Jarange Patil has been sitting on a fast for the past 8 days. To support him, we called a meeting, and we decided to keep this market shut for one day... Daily, 20,000 to 25,000 people come here... The daily business for this market is from Rs 15 crore to 20 crore,” said Santosh Nagare.
