Kolkata Women Participate In Sindur Khela

Women in Kolkata, West Bengal participated in ‘Sindur Khela’. Sindur Khela is celebrated on the final day of Durga pooja. It is one of the most important rituals of Durga pooja. Married women smear vermillion on each other and pray for the long lives of their husbands. Sindur khela is celebrated on Dussehra or Vijaydashmi. Sindur khela marks the conclusion of navratri and durga pooja. Navratri is a hindu festival which is celebrated for nine days. Various avatars of goddess Durga are worshipped on different days. The eighth days is celebrated as durga ashtmi and the nineth day is celebrated as Ram navmi. People observe fasts during navratri and recite mantras and chants. They also make special food or prasad and offer it to children.
