Why Did Neeraj Chopra Withdrew from Zurich Diamond League?

The Diamond League took place in Zurich, Switzerland on September 5, 2024, with several athletes in competition to gain points in order to qualify for the summit clash in Brussels. Neeraj Chopra , the star javelin thrower from India, was not a part of the Zurich Diamond League. The Javelin star's berth in the Brussels Diamond League Final is virtually assured, which is the reason. Neeraj's season-best throw of 89.49 meters helped him place second at the Diamond League in Lausanne.

Presently, Neeraj Chopra holds the third spot in the overall rankings. With his third-place finish, he has already qualified for the Diamond League final in Belgium, where he must rank among the top six athletes. The decision to not take part in the Zurich Event allowed him to get some rest and gear up for the summit clash in Brussels. Given that Neeraj is currently dealing with a groin injury, the decision to not take part was a calculated move to keep himself ready for the competition.

Neeraj Chopra had a silver medal finish this year at the Paris Olympics and failed to defend his gold medal this year. He went on to compete in the Diamond League, where he finished second despite having a season-best throw, which was better than the Summer Olympics. The Indian javelin ace will aim to end his Diamond League campaign on a high note and finish in the top spot of the table.
