'Protection of civilians needs to be...'

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has expressed his condolences to victims of the mass hooting in Maine.

"Our thoughts go out to our friends in Maine and neighbors in Maine who are suffering a terrible, terrible moment right now," Trudeau told reporters on Thursday.

He also urged the warring parties in the Israel Hamas conflict to allow unfettered access for aid deliveries.

"We are also very much impressing upon Israel to ensure that even as they go after Hamas and exercise their legitimate right to defend themselves in accordance with international law," Trudeau said.

Heavily armed police surrounded a home Thursday as they searched for a U.S. Army reservist who authorities say killed 18 people and wounded 13 in a mass shooting at a bowling alley and a bar in Lewiston, Maine.
