Assembly Election Results 2026: Counting of votes concludes across four key states and one Union territory - West Bengal, Kerala, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry - in one of the biggest electoral tests of 2026. As the Assembly Election Results 2026 live updates began to flow in after 8 am, early vote-counting trends, seat-wise results, and leading and trailing candidates were starting to emerge under the supervision of the Election Commission of India.
Among all states, the West Bengal election results 2026 remained the biggest focus, with voter turnout crossing 92%. In the Northeast, the Assam election 2026 recorded a strong 85.38% turnout. In the south, Tamil Nadu elections 2026 saw 84.69% participation, while the Kerala elections 2026 stood at 79.63%. Puducherry elections 2026, with nearly 89.87% turnout, were also expected to be a close contest.
West Bengal delivered the most dramatic shift of the May 4 verdict, with the Bharatiya Janata Party crossing the halfway mark in the 294-member House to secure its first government in the state. The BJP won 206 seats, ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year tenure, as the TMC was reduced to 81 seats. The result was concluded by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s defeat in Bhabanipur to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari by 15,105 votes. In Assam, the BJP-led NDA returned with a strong mandate. The BJP on its own won 82 of 126 seats, while allies Bodoland People’s Front and Asom Gana Parishad took 10 seats each. The Congress was limited to 19 seats, with AIUDF and Raijor Dal winning 2 each and the TMC opening its account with 1 seat.
Tamil Nadu saw a break from its decades-old duopoly as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam emerged as the single largest party with 107 seats, according to the figures provided. The result included a high-profile upset in Kolathur, where TVK’s VS Babu defeated CM MK Stalin. In Kerala, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) returned to power, ousting the incumbent LDF. Puducherry also went to the polls alongside the 4 states, with counting held on the same day, and the final composition of its 30-member Assembly saw the NDA returning to power.
