Reportedly, a princess from Saudi Arabia alleged that there was a theft of jewels worth 800,000 euros from her suite at the Ritz hotel in Paris. The princess whose name has not been revealed stated that the jewels were taken on Friday afternoon. However, there were no signs that the room had been broken into. The woman told prosecutors that the belongings were not left in the room's safe and were just kept beside her bed. As confirmed by a legal source, an investigation has been opened up by France's anti-organized crime brigade and more details are being awaited. Reportedly, an official from the Ritz hotel has declined to comment on the issue, but this would be the second heist from the Paris hotel, as in January, earlier this year, armed men burst in the lobby of the hotel, and stole millions of dollars worth necklaces and other jewelry from display cases. Although all the jewels were eventually recovered, the police managed to catch three of them inside the premises, while the two others managed to escape.
The area near the hotel is filled with a dozen of luxury shops and boutiques and armed thefts are not uncommon. Earlier, in 2017, a man was able to substitute two diamonds with fake ones in a jewellery store. The rings were worth 5.5 million euros. In October 2016, the reality television star Kim Kadarshian was a victim of a robbery, just 10 minutes walk from the Ritz Hotel, wherein millions of dollars worth her jewelry was stolen. Just before the robber, Kim had posted a picture of her £3.5 million pound ring. As per reports, the criminals entered the premises posing to be police officials. They also held Kim at gunpoint and fled the scenes after helping themselves with millions of euros. Ever since these incidents, the police officials have made sure to keep an eye on the street, but this has hardly done anything to deter the determined robbers in the area.
