The Congress party on Saturday called the Gandhi family as the 'first family of India', adding that India should be 'obliged' to them.
Responding to the question on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sensational exposure of the Gandhi-Vadra dynasty during his first election interview to Republic Media Network's Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, senior Congress MP PC Chacko said that India should be 'obliged' to the Gandhi family for freedom, and that the PM Modi is 'not aware' about the history.
"PM Modi has negative opinion for the first family of India. The first family of India is truly the first family of India. India is obliged to them. PM Modi yesterday was speaking about achievements in the space. India is India today because of the planning and leadership of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. When India became free what as India's situation. Modi do not understand history. India was made self-sufficient through the Green Revolution, the White Revolution. Everything happened during Pt Nehru's time. His family's contribution in Indian history can never be erased," Chacko said.
He went onto declare that the heir from the Gandhi family (Rahul Gandhi) will become the next Prime Minister of India.
"Mr Modi can see that Rahul Gandhi, who hails from the same first family, will become the Prime Minister," Chacko added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, while giving his first 2019 election interview to Republic Media Network's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami, exposed the Congress party for considering themselves as 'Raja-Maharajas'.
"You'll be surprised to know that multiple notices went to the Congress party - multiple notices went in the national herald case. These people consider themselves raja -maharajas (royals). They don’t even respond. So we had to go to court. It is not easy to get dates from courts – that is the reason why it is taking so long. It is only after all this that they were forced to plead for bail in national herald case," PM Modi said during the interview.
Responding to PM Modi's statement, Sonia Gandhi's daughter and Congress general-secretary Priyanka Gandhi had opined on PM Modi's statement saying that her family fought the Raja-Maharajas.
"My family worked against the 'Raja-Maharajas' (princes and kings), removed their privy purses. My family never considered itself as a 'Raja-Maharaja'," she had said.
