Iran warns Biden over Israeli support

Iran’s foreign minister said on Thursday that Hamas is ready to release civilian prisoners taken from Israel and called for the international community to take support the release of 6,000 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.

Speaking from New York at a United Nations conference, Hossein Amirabdollahian told an emergency meeting of the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday that Iran “stands ready to play its part in this very important humanitarian endeavor, along with Qatar and Turkey.”

More than 1,400 people in Israel were killed, mostly civilians, in the initial Hamas attack, according to Israeli officials.

Israel's military raised the number of remaining hostages in Gaza to 222 people, including foreigners believed captured by Hamas during the incursion. Four hostages have been released so far.
Meanwhile, Israeli airstrikes have devastated parts of the Gaza Strip, leaving neighborhoods destroyed and hospitals struggling to treat the wounded due to diminishing resources.
The war, now in its 21st day, is the deadliest of five Gaza wars for both sides.
The Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry said Thursday that more than 7,000 Palestinians have been killed so far — more than three times the number killed in the six-week-long Gaza war in 2014.
