The City Where Ravan Is Worshipped
People from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh worshiped Ravan at the Dashanan Temple. The temple which was built in 1868 opens just once a year on Vijaydashmi morning. It is believed Ravan mastered 10 ‘mahavidyas’ hence people worship him to attain wisdom. This is one of the very few temples where Ravan is worshiped in India. Navratri is a hindu festival which is celebrated for nine days. Various avatars of goddess Durga are worshipped on different days. The eighth day is celebrated as durga ashtmi and the nineth day is celebrated as Ram navmi. The tenth day is celebrated as dussehra. People observe fasts during navratri and recite mantras and chants. They also make special food or prasad and offer it to children.
