This episode shows the journey of Gaon Connection, India's biggest rural media platform, a two-way street that takes information to knowledge-starved rural communities and brings information about everything from problems to role models from media-dark areas to urban India. It has empowered the rural India for at least 6 years and is the recipient of the prestigious Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism awards.

“I used to wonder why there is no voice for rural India in the mainstream media...there is so much to tell. Gaon Connection today is India’s biggest media platform where we do video content, we do audio content, the digital platform, we have a subscription backed weekly newspaper. We do a lot of ground activation, small events and surveys. The swayam project is our bedrock and it includes community journalism from diverse spaces. On this episode, our panel of experts discusses and deliberate about the success story of Gaon Connection and about the challenges they faced initially. The panel comprises of Neelesh Misra (Founder, Gaon Connection), Ashok Pamidi (CEO – Nasscom Foundation), Smruti R. Sarangi (Associate Professor, Computer Science and Engineering Department – IIT Delhi) and Rishikesh Patankar (Head of Operations – Education – CSC E- Governance Services India LTD). The panel was moderated by Shivani Gupta (Associate Editor – Republic TV).

The panel also discussed about countering fake news and misinformation through digital literacy and how digital technology can be used to create awareness and avoid misinformation. Moreover, they talk about the role that government plays and how the right blend of passion, idea and the correct platform that can bring a change in the lives of people.
